the joys of living at islandwood

this morning, i woke up and walked over to the commons (where all of us grads live/cook/relax) to make some breakfast. as i was opening the door, i heard the drumming of some woodpeckers. i took a minute to look around to find it...and i spotted a pileated woodpecker. then, one flew about 10 feet away from me on a dead log on the ground and started drumming. i was looking at 2 of them....and i had never seen one before! it was very cool...so i took the chance and went back to my cabin to get my camera. i spent about 20 minutes following them around to get some good pictures. it was very interesting observing their actions. the pictures arent that great, but give you an idea.

above is a picture of our graduate commons. it is a nice place for all of us...the main challenge is keeping it clean all the time. dirty dishes in the sink are the main annoyance.
while i was making some eggs for breakfast, i decided to get some greens from the garden to eat as well. i love that i can just walk out to the garden, and snip some fresh greens. i hope i can do this where jared and i live someday.
i love how i can wake up and i never know what i will spot in a tree or see as i am walking to campus on the trail. it is always something different, and i appreciate that very much. God blesses me with those small moments with creation. He is truly incredible.
