We began the journey on Thursday afternoon, after our friend's wedding on the beach. Jared took pictures and took care of the music, and i was there to help the bride get ready. it was a blessing to be part of such a special celebration. after the reception, we crossed the water ferry back to quepos and prepared for our trip to panama.
our trip there was almost put on hold by some trouble by the cops, but a little money helped that situation. after an hour and a half of no rain, on a BUMPY road, we made it to our friend's house, mike and starla, who live in dominical. they just arrived 3 months ago as well and we had met them when i came to visit jared during april. they are from a calvary chapel church and planned to start a church. however, God had different plans before they started services on sunday, and led them to open a coffee shop. right now, they are having thursday night bible studies, which we could attend! i was very thankful for this opportunity.
the bible study was a great time of fellowship and study of God's word with fellow christians who are living in costa rica. a great time.
the next day, we joined mike and starla and their kids on their 45 minute trek to San Isidro, where they go to school....and also the place where we had to hop on our bus to panama. we hung out in san isidro for awhile, at Curtis and Shelly's house. Curtis and jared met before in quepos...and Curtis' mom led some mission trips in Mexico that jared and his brother and sister attended as well! how cool is that? we had a nice time at their house with their 4 girls, all under age 5, and enjoyed the conversation as well. it is not very often we get to connect with christian gringos on the same page.
the bus to panama was uneventful and we arrived to boquete, a small town in the mountains late in the evening. we enjoyed the town and even enjoyed a white water rafting trip on sunday morning. i fell out of the boat 2 times! jared fell out once. the first time, we fell out together. it was kinda scary. we left with a few bruises, but are doing well.
we journeyed back to costa rica and met back up with mike and starla on monday night. they blessed us with a place to stay for the night as well as good company. they are a fun couple, and mike is very similar to jared, which i find really funny. we ate breakfast together, and then our BUMPY ride back was ahead of us. oh man, was i dreading that one. thankfully, we arrived safely and without rain, which is a huge blessing. oh yeah, and we didnt get pulled over.
it feels good to be home. i feel refreshed after our trip. it felt good to forget about school for a little bit, even though i have no idea what my students have been doing the past 4 days while i have been gone.
jared's parents and bro and sis are coming to visit us for thanksgiving, which will be great! we are looking foward to the company. also, one of jared's friends is coming to visit in december for a couple weeks.
tonight, i was reflecting about the different people we met, specifically american christians, in the last 2 weeks. God is up to something big, and he is spreading us out in all parts of Costa Rica. At one point, i was wishing we lived closer to them, but I am thankful God has us spread out. Pray for his will to be done here in this country...and that we listen and obey.
